Are you looking for accommodation in Paarl Interschools Rugby event this year? Most people in Paarl know that come August, it is time to make your choice. Because August means the biggest school sporting event in South Africa, Paarl Boys High vs Paarl Gimnasium, is taking place. And your blood is either blue – or green!
The whole town participate in this event and various houses and businesses are decorated with either, or both, the competing teams colors. The first Interschools was held in 1915 and except for 1918 (due to First World War I) it has been held every year since.
The highlight of the event is when the U/19A rugby teams meet at Faure Street Stadium. This match draws a lot of attention from young and old. To represent their school’s first team for Interschools, is a dream coming true for most players. They play their hearts out in front of the crowd of approximately 16000. This event is also broadcast on television as part of the FNB Classic Clashes.
Paarl Girl’s High competes against Gimnasium’s girls in events such as Netball and Hockey under a banner which includes both Boys’ High and Girl’s High.
Interschools are not only about sport. It is also a time for reunions and for Old Boys (and Girls) to rekindle old friendships. Supporters are keen to show their support and travel from all over the world to attend the event.
The whole weekend and built up to the event is characteristic for the spirit between old and new rivalries.
